Week 3 Update
Not a whole lot to write about this week as we've been snowed in... BUT we had a lecture from the creator of Ossia Score and I took down a few notes. Here they are:
- Timeline features similar to adobe premiere pro which im more comfortable with
- Green line = current part of score
- I get the functions of the software but I’m having a hard time understanding how to set up the conditionals (I think there are so many options that I’m just unclear about what we’re actually looking at)
- Thank you rob for asking the question we were all thinking lol
- The placed dots send osc messages to external sources (drag from address panel to place one)
- Tween feature within automation guarantees smooth transition by catching something at any value and evening it out
- Mapping: taking data from sensors and turning it into visuals
- Define a range with data processing tab -> mapping tool
- Rate limiter defines how much data we want to process, usually depends on computer capabilities
- Monitoring tool allows for value display and signal display
- I need to explore more on this I kind of lost him
- Reference guide on ossia.io
As you can see, I left with a lot of questions because I felt like he started at a point that was already beyond my understanding, so I decided to do some research afterward and found that there isn't much out there about the software that isn't straight from Ossia. The official documentation looks reliable, and here's some tutorials that they have posted, but again, kind of jumping around. I need a really basic start point, because I planned on following along with his demo but didn't have any samples or devices connected ahead of time like he did. I definitely see how this software can be useful, I'm just not there with using it yet.
In unrelated news, I watched the videos on lab 4, but haven't completed it yet because I still haven't had the chance to do lab 2 with me being sick and the school closure, and that seems like important info to move into this one. Labs 2 4 and 5 are on the list for this week.
