Pre-lab Electricity Notes
Basics of electricity
AC standard outlet: 110V (sin wave)
- Energy measured as 60hz
DC batteries: 9v usually (constant)
Volts (V)
Current (amps / I )
Resistance (ohms / R )
V = IR
R = V/I
I = V/R
Using a breadboard
- Wires or staples that connect through different holes to make electrical connections
- Rows are already electrically connected, minus break in the middle
- Plus is power, minus is ground
Flashlight circuit
- LED on h14 and 16, resistor on j16 and the blue stripe, wire from i14 to power stripe
- Then connect battery to + and - to complete the circuit
Schematics + Diagrams
- Battery is 3 lines with + and - denoted
- Resistor is jagged line with resistance labeled
- LED is lines and a triangle
Components in the circuit
- LED indicators
- Larger piece of internal metal is negative side
- Shorter leg is negative side
- Resistor indicators
- Gold stripe = 5%
- First number, second number, number of zeros
- 0 black, 1 brown, 2 red, 3 orange, 4 yellow, 5 green, 6 blue, 7 violet, 8 grey, 9 white
ex: 10,000 = brown black orange
10 = brown black black
